What is your morning routine? This period of time, can impact the flow of your day and your stress level as tackle your projects.

Do you feel any of the options below at the beginning of your workday?

Anxiety

Confusion

Stressed

Irritable

Overwhelmed

Unmotivated

Like you never left the office from the day before

Like your day was out of control yesterday and will be today as well?

The first step is to realize that you need to take control of your morning. You may not be able to control certain meetings or tasks that must be done first thing in the morning. You can control the rest of the time around those tasks.

  1. Have your tea/coffee and breakfast. Your body is your tool to handle your day. Give it what it needs. Fuel for success!
  2. Anxious, confused, stressed irritable and overwhelmed? Take control of your day. Write down your 3 main, priority responsibilities for the day if you have not written them down, before you left work the day before. Then complete your responsibilities in the prioritized order.
  3. Unmotivated? How you feel about it has nothing to do with what you need to get done. Do not linger to consider how much you do not want to do your tasks or if they are fair, the weather, or the meaning of life. Just start with the first tasks and work on executing it one step at a time.
  4. Do you feel like starting well is pointless because yesterday and the days before were out of control, and what will make starting well this day make any difference?
  5. Do you feel like you never left? This is probably because you are putting in too many extra hours. Go in on time, take breaks during the day and leave on time. Sometime we do need to put in some extra time but this should not be the norm. Quality of life matters. You will be surprised at how refreshed and ready to start your work day, you will feel!

Timers can help you keep on track and remind you to take those needed breaks throughout your workday. Ultimately, a better managed day today will lead to a better and more peaceful start tomorrow.
