One of the hardest thing for some people to do is ask for help?
Why? Fear and pride are two of the main reasons.
Reasons why fear is a factor:
- Being ridiculed
- Perceived authority or status may be questioned
- Rejection of the request leading to feelings of shame
Reasons why pride is a factor:
- Your unrealistic expectation that you will know how to do everything
- Credit for solutions will be given to the person who helped
- Damaged feeling of superiority
Everything is a learning experience from birth until death. Ask. For. Help.
We make unnecessary mistakes when we blindly stumble along. We are going to make mistakes. Learn from them, remember the lesson and move on.
Asking for help is also a great way to build relationships. It show you value the person enough to request their assistance.
Some people may reject your request. That could be for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with you. Even if it is due to jealousy or a scarcity mindset, move on and ask someone else.
Make your request with a specific reasonable time frame, maybe 15 or 20 minutes depending on the other person. Leave at the agreed upon time unless they prolong the meeting and even then do not overstay your welcome. Do not let them have to gently invite you to leave.
Also please be willing to help someone else. We all do so much better when we help each other.
